10일 세계노총이 <133개국 1.05억노동자들을 대변하는 세계노총은 지난 2주동안 남동쪽 지역에서 창궐한 콜레라바이러스로 인해 코로나19팬데믹에 더불어 보건위기의 이중고를 겪고 있는 카메룬노동자들과 그가족들에 최대의 연대의 인사를 표한다>고 발표했다. 

성명은 <해당 지역에서 32명의 확진자중 5명이 사망했다>라며 <바무소지역은 바카씨, 음봉쥬, 림브, 티코, 문담바 5개지역보다 더 어려운 상황이며 의심증상자들이 많다>고 알렸다. 

이어서 <카메룬남동지역에서 벌어지고 있는 일은 인적・보안적 재난이며 안전한 식수의 보급과 위생보장에 한계가 있는 지역들에서 일어나는 인구이동에 의한 것이다. 콜레라는 치명적인 질병으로, 가장 까다로운 바이러스이며 갑작스런 탈수와 설사를 일으켜 사망에 이르게 한다.>고 분석했다. 

끝으로 <세계노총은 노동자들과 그가족들에게 즉각적인 안정을 주기 위해 카메룬의 동지들과 함께 싸우겠다. 그들에게 존엄 있는 삶과 생활상 필수적인 요구를 보장해야한다.>고 밝혔다.

The WFTU representing more than 105 million workers in 133 countries is expressing its full solidarity and support with the working families in Cameroon who have been hit by a surge in cholera cases in the last two weeks in the country’s Southwest region, adding to a public health crisis accompanied by a rise in COVID-19 cases
Five people have been killed and 32 cases confirmed in the region.
Bamusso district has been the hardest hit with five other districts including Bakassi, Mbonge, Limbe, Tiko and Mundemba “on high alert for suspected cases.
The epidemic occurs in the Southwest in a context of insecurity and humanitarian crisis, with regular movements of population to places where access to safe drinking water and latrines is limited and cholera is a highly virulent disease characterized in its most severe form by a sudden onset of acute watery diarrhea that can lead to death by severe dehydration.
The WFTU is fighting along with its affiliates and friends in Cameroon for the immediate relief of working families and the satisfaction of their basic needs for a dignified life.
